But today, let's take a delicious detour into the world of culinary delight. I'm excited to share one of my all-time favorite recipes with you – Homemade Honey Butter Biscuits.
A Taste of the South in West Texas
Living in the heart of West Texas, we might be miles away from the Southern charm of places like Savannah or Charleston, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy a taste of the South right here in Lubbock. These Honey Butter Biscuits are a delightful blend of flaky, buttery goodness with a touch of sweet, sticky honey – a true comfort food that warms both the heart and the soul.
What You'll Need
Before we dive into the recipe, let's gather our ingredients:
For the Biscuits:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
3/4 cup whole milk
For the Honey Butter Topping:
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons honey
Let's Get Baking!
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). While the oven is heating up, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
Add the cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour in the milk and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; you want the dough to be a bit shaggy.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it gently a few times until it comes together. Pat it down to about 1/2-inch thickness.
Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out your biscuits. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown.
While the biscuits are baking, mix the melted butter and honey in a small bowl.
As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush them with the honey butter mixture. The warmth of the biscuits will help the honey butter soak in, creating a delectable glaze.
Allow the biscuits to cool for a few minutes, then serve them warm. Be prepared for smiles all around!
